Japanese Christmas

Bookmark and Share
Being here in Rome in Christmas, I was asked more than a few times if there’s Christmas in Japan and how we celebrate it. For the first question, yes, we do something like christmas. However, that is not at all relegious event.

In Christmas season, shops and cities start to put on christmas songs, lights, ornaments, colors, etc. Most of the parents give Christmas presents to their children while they are small, and then stop when they are grow up. (I believed in Santa Clause untill 10 years old.) Some people hold Christmas parties and exchange gifts between participants.

It’s not necessarily a family event. People prefer to stay with boyfriend or girlfriend, instead of with family. Christmas is basically a celebration for couples, and a mourn for singles for adults.
