Marin is full of Japanese restaurants. But there are a rare few that transport me: places where dining can be a rapturous experience.
Sushi 69 in downtown San Anselmo is one of these. It’s been open just a couple of years, tucked away from the bustle of San Anselmo Avenue down a little alley called Center Boulevard. The name refers to the address.
Its owner is Hiroyuki Makino, a young chef from Tokyo. He owned Akira on Fourth Street in downtown San Rafael for several years and for a while was running both restaurants. He sold the Fourth Street eatery, currently Umi Sushi under new owners, and now concentrates all his energy on Sushi 69....
